Picture is unrelated, but awesome none the less. Anyway, I may have just seen the worst example of car control in the history of the world.

I went Karting at an indoor place today, and as you can imagine there were a ton of people who had no idea what they were doing. During one of the hot lap sessions, I was put in a group that featured a woman who was so bad she ended up having to leave the session. I shit you not.

She ended up crashing out three times without even getting a full lap in. Each time there were massive delays (probably around 7 mins, which is how long an average section is), and that's not even the worst part. No, the worst part was the fact she managed to do this when the karts were only running HALF THE HP . This happens when you first enter the track or are transitioning from a red flag to yellow. The karts are fairly neutral in this state, which makes her wipeouts all the more baffling. Considering the karts are extremely tail happy (as is needed) with full power, I can see why she decided to abandon the section.

/rant over

Anyway, happy new year oppo!

Luckily she got pulled before she could get someone hurt. I went karting with my friends and we had some punk who would purposely "defend his line" and cut you off if you went for a pass. He wiped out on the turn before the long straight and so he was carrying zero speed. I caught up with him because of that wipeout and went for the pass on the straight. He sees me, and swerves in front of me at the last second. So I plow in the back of him and it was a pretty brutal hit. Of course he gets in my face about it being my fault until the marshal comes over and chews his ass out for cutting people off because he's a terrible driver. It really hurt for a day or two afterwards all because he was a shitty driver.

Good on that track for pulling people out who are obviously going to be a road hazard.

She probably didn't anticipate how hard it was to steer them (great upper body workout) and just expected them to be the same as you would see at an amusement park ("oh! racing isn't a real sport, you just have to pres some pedals, etc.")

I recently went karting and was reminded just how much I need to work out.

The karts I used had pretty light steering, though there wasn't a lot of feedback. My arms weren't sore, thought that may be because I kind put all my body weight into the side I was turning to (kind of like with a motorcycle). Helps with the weight transfers (which you need for the hairpins), but it's left me with a hella sore back.

Huh, probably just full of dumb. the karting place where I am are the actual racing karts in a tight indoor track. The tires are sticky as hell and the concrete floor has all the rubber left from others before. Although the problem with those karts is that the throttle is more of an on/off switch, and there seems to be no spring. So zero feedback, and quite a bit of oppo.

Sounds similar to the karts I used.
